Lee Roy Selmon's story combines family football scholarships and community service. The first is the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on a Eufala farm. In second football, he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. All three became All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. The three years he was the team's starter, Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. The National Football Foundation named him a Scholar-Athlete for the third time in 1975. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Fourth-year service in the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. After college he settled in Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers played an all-pro three times before beginning an entrepreneurial career. He was hired in 1988 as an Account Relations officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's top 10 young males. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as player, commanded his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of the university of south Florida's sports department as Director of Athletics as an associate. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame recognized the player on the 28th of October, 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. Parents, Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
