Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speech writer. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary analysing portrayals gender roles in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource to educate women about their positions in the pop culture narratives was the result of her research. She also serves as the director of operations. As well as working to bring awareness to sexual harassment and attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking the stereotypes in the popular culture. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaker. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while still a student at the University. She had a plan to launch a web series that would examine the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. Her determination was not slowed by the assault, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become an expert on media and feminism. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit investigates women's representation in contemporary pop culture.
